Townsville is a known breeding area for these magnificent animals. I understand the risks, get local knowledge of areas I will be paddling into prior to getting there, and am very aware of my surroundings. The risk is real and I do not want to be a statistic; however, the chance of perishing because of a shark is quite small and will not be stopping my trip.
